Revenue Management Foundations
What revenue management actually is, why your hotel's owner cares, and the metrics every front-desk manager should know.
When you finish this course…
- Explain RevPAR, ADR, and occupancy to a non-finance colleague in under two minutes
- Identify your hotel's three most important revenue segments without looking at a report
- Read a daily pickup report and spot anomalies before your DOR does
- Articulate why dynamic pricing isn't the same as "raising rates on busy days"
- Walk a new front-desk hire through the booking-channel map
About this course
Revenue management isn't spreadsheet wizardry — it's a discipline borrowed from airlines in the 1980s, adapted clumsily by hotels, and now central to every owner conversation. This course explains what RM actually is, separates it from the marketing pitch most vendors give you, and walks through the metrics every front-desk manager should know cold.
You'll leave able to explain RevPAR, ADR, and occupancy to a colleague who's never seen them; identify your hotel's three most important revenue segments without looking at a report; and have a defensible answer to "why are we charging more on Saturday?" when the front-desk supervisor asks.
This is the prerequisite for the Practitioner-level Revenue track. If you're aiming for a revenue analyst or assistant DOR role, start here.
